Siddons Residence, Exmore, Virginia

This project was an addition to and renovation of a unique home. Designed by an architect who had trained with Frank Lloyd Wright, it is a classic of early modern prairie-style architecture. The design attempts to preserve the integrity of the original building while nearly doubling the space available to the owners.

The addition is placed carefully behind the existing home. It is connected only by a thin glass corridor. This approach treats the original house as "sacred", while adding a complimentary form that, while clearly not original, matches the original in scale, material, and detail. The addition emphasizes the strong horizontal nature of the original by providing vertical lines for contrast.
