This project is a new vacation residence for a client who uses a wheelchair. The site has a beautiful view to the north, and a busy street to the south. The design solution was to use passive-solar strategies and a continuous row of clerestory windows to provide abundant south light while blocking views of the street, and opening the home to the north while tucking the roof down to shed storm winds.
The plan is open but each space is well defined by window arrangement and ceiling treatment. The primary focus is out over the water to the North, though most of the light comes from high clerestory windows to the South.
